TASK FORCE 8 1942 KWAJALEIN RAID (FILM REVERSED)
This is great pre-Doolittle Raid/Battle of Midway seldom seen footage. The entire film is of Task Force 8 operations for the February 1942 Kwajalein Raid which included Admiral Halsey's flagship "The Big E" USS Enterprise (CV-6); Northampton-class heavy cruisers USS Northampton (CA-26) and USS Chester (CA-27); Pensacola-class heavy cruiser USS Salt Lake City (CA-25); Mahan-class destroyer USS Dunlap (DD-384); Porter-class destroyer USS Balch (DD-363); Gridley-class destroyers USS McCall (DD-400) and USS Maury (DD-401); Bagley-class destroyers USS Blue (DD-387) and USS Ralph Talbot (DD-390); and Cimarron-class fleet oiler USS Platte (AO-24). All aircraft in this video except the SOC Seagull floatplanes have Enterprise squadron markings ie VT-6, VB-6, VF-6. All aircraft in this video have pre-war identification markings, ie red ball inside white star on wings and fuselage; 13 red and white horizontal bars on rudders, all of which were removed by May 1942. The film is reversed, ie backwards squadron markings on aircraft, carrier island on wrong side, USN stencil on pilots flotation vest reversed . . .
